Originating during the time of Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Gatka was developed to prepare Sikhs to protect themselves and the oppressed against tyranny.
This Foundation Day, like every year, students (both boys and girls) of Akal Academy Baru Sahib showcased this revered Sikh martial tradition, which instills mental strength, discipline and courage, empowering them to face challenges with resilience and self-control, while honouring the rich heritage and legacy of Sikhism.
Description -80 girls from Grades 6–12 of Akal Academy Baru Sahib showcased the true spirit of strength, discipline, and courage through a spectacular martial arts performance during the 39th Foundation Day.
Along with academics, our students are trained in self-defence and multiple martial art forms, including Boxing, Karate, Judo, Taekwondo and Mal Akhada, preparing them to face any challenge with confidence and composure.
Their rigorous training routine includes daily fitness challenges — 100 push-ups, 300 squats, 1000 jumps, 100 pull-ups, 20kg Gada (200 reps), Mudgar (200 reps) and more, fostering holistic development through value-based education.
Two stories. One purpose.
At the 39th Foundation Day celebration, our IB PYP students portrayed the power of education and the resilient spirit of Punjab in times of adversity, reminding us that knowledge and compassion together can heal the world.
Education enlightens. Empathy heals. Together, we rise.
