Who we are

Setup amidst serene and picturesque ambience in the lower Himalayas of Himachal Pradesh, the Akal Academy New Campus at Baru Sahib, is a globally renowned educational institution imparting high quality value based education.

The Academy , inter alia , offers two most sought after academic streams, International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). Akal Academy has been the first institution to set up an IB authorized world school in 2013 in Northern India, which also has the Cambridge International affiliation. The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is available for the age group from 3 to 11 years( Nursery to Grade V) and the Cambridge Programme is available for the age group 11 to 19 Years (Grade VI to XII) .The IB School , the first one so far in Himachal Pradesh has undergone two successful evaluations in 2017 and 2022.

The IB PYP emphasis on inquiry based learning and hands on experience where specially trained educators follow challenging classroom syllabus and prepare students to be committed, creative and compassionate citizens of the world. It nurtures a commitment to learning as a life long process, challenging students to take thoughtful action with their newly acquired knowledge and skills.

The CAIE curriculum prepares school students develop strong curiosity and Cambridge Pathway gives students a clear path for educational success from age 5 to 19.The Akal Academy New Campus at Baru Sahib offers Cambridge Primary, Cambridge lower Secondary, Cambridge upper Secondary and Cambridge Advanced Programme covering a wide range of subjects and using flexible ways to offer them. This helps our students discover new abilities and a wider world and gives them the skills they need for life so that they are able to achieve excellence at School, university and professional world.

The CAIE programme at Akal Academy, New Campus adopts active learning as classroom approach. This acknowledges that students remain active in the learning process by building knowledge and understanding in response to the learning opportunities provided by the teacher.


Our Mission

Akal Academy aims at preparing youngsters through modern education with spirituality to develop them into global citizens striving for the spirit of inquiry and reform to serve humanity at large with dedication and devotion.

Our Ethos

The above divine hymn is incorporated in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and refers to that, the ones who are educated will always have a universal outlook and will use education for the betterment and welfare of human-kind.
Our founding saints have propounded education to be of three types:

LITERACY:

This is defined as learning of ‘ABC’ of any subject. The Literate person who has no spiritual values are mostly egoistic and self-centred. Such humans have led to erosion of human values. This has led to awful situations like wars, crime against humanity, exploitation and hatred towards each other, which threatens the very existence of humanity. The prevailing current world scenario is an example of the same.

VALUE BASED EDUCATION:

Whenever Literacy is amalgamated with moral and spiritual values, it becomes Education (VIDYAA). ​Thus a person with ​value based​ education has a broader outlook and is believed to work for the betterment and welfare of society and humanity at large, contributing in creating universal brotherhood and permanent peace in the world.

SPIRITUAL ENLIGHTENMENT:

For spiritual enlightenment​ one does not have to go to any ​school, college or university. This is ​inherently ​ revealed on recitation of Divine Name with complete Love and Devotion​ with the association of pious ​souls.

T hus we need Gurukuls which can strengthen the roots of our children, expose them to the spiritual realm, teach them to have respect for values and morals and develop in them the uncanny ability to discern right from wrong

We at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib believe in empowering young minds with Value Based Education, alongside exposing them to the best of educational Pedagogy (Worldly Scientific Education), moral and spiritual values.

We are also of firm belief that exposing the young minds to a value based education system would surely benefit in soothing the already raging world, bringing in permanent peace and thus creating global citizen.

Our Journey So Far...

  • 2003

    The seeds of our journey were planted when the Head of School discovered the International Baccalaureate (IB) program as a model of pedagogical excellence through an education journal. This moment sparked a vision for integrating IB’s innovative approach into our ethos at Akal Academy Baru Sahib.
  • 2004

    The President of the Kalgidhar Trust made a pivotal decision to adopt IB pedagogy, aligning with our mission of holistic education. Dr. M.S. Atwal, the founding Vice-Chancellor of the Board of Directors, initiated a study tour to the USA to explore IB’s transformative potential.
  • 2004

    Dr. Neelam Kaur, Head of School, embarked on a three-week visit to the USA to understand the operational dynamics of IB schools across government, private, and science institutions. This exploration laid the groundwork for integrating global educational standards into our curriculum.
  • 2005

    Furthering our commitment, Dr. Neelam Kaur and Dr. Davinder Singh, Secretary of the Kalgidhar Trust, conducted an in-depth study tour, focusing on the nuances of IB pedagogy in the USA. Their insights would soon shape our educational landscape.
  • 2007

    A significant milestone was achieved with a feasibility visit by Ms. Farzana Dohadwala, South East Asia Pacific Head of IB. Her visit validated our readiness to embrace the IB framework and inspired further action towards official affiliation.
  • 2009

    Akal Academy Baru Sahib was awarded candidate status, marking the beginning of our formal association with the IB program. This milestone was a testament to our unwavering dedication to providing world-class education.
  • 2011

    Acquainting the parents with IB philosophy and programme.
  • 2011

    We launched a comprehensive campaign to familiarize parents with the IB philosophy, ensuring community alignment with our vision. By this year, the Akal Academy network had expanded exponentially, with 101 schools established.
  • 2012

    The pre-authorization visit by Kathy Derrick, IB PYP School Services Associate Regional Manager, further solidified our preparedness to become an IB World School. Her guidance was instrumental in refining our approach and ensuring compliance with IB standards.
  • 2013

    On November 20th, Akal Academy Baru Sahib was officially declared an International School, a moment of pride that symbolized the fruition of our Seeds & Deeds philosophy in creating a global educational hub.
  • 2017

    Our first IB evaluation was conducted by a team led by Seema Bhati from Delhi and Elaine Lam from Malaysia. This evaluation affirmed our commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to the highest educational standards.
  • 2022

    Our second IB evaluation, conducted by Elaine Lam from Malaysia and Vandana Lulla from Mumbai, highlighted our sustained excellence and reinforced our role as a beacon of value-based, international education.
    Through each step of this journey, we have sown the seeds of knowledge and nurtured deeds of global citizenship, transforming Akal Academy Baru Sahib into a sanctuary of learning that empowers young minds to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
