On 10th Dec the IB PYP students of AABS who had successfully completed Grade 5, recieved their certificates in a Graduation Ceremony held at the center.
The program was organised by “ Amul House” on 07 October 2016. Each of the four ‘Houses’ organised cultural glimpses from four regions including festivals, clothes, food and artefacts specific to these regions. It provided the PYP students an insight to the diverse culture among various regions.
PYP students presented a fancy dress show, on 16 September 2016 , which enabled them to reflect their learning from the themes associated to related concepts like leaders and occupations; related to the memorable characters from the stories they read during “Drop Everything And Read’’ sessions and to personify their favourite sports idols.
Akal Academy, Baru Sahib situated in the lap of nature surrounded by beautiful mountains and valleys, provides ample opportunities to explore nature through outdoor study sessions by the inquiring students of PYP. They visit farmland, small scale industries, services in the neighbourhood, conduct interview with experts from various areas as part of their units of inquiry.
House-wise performance was organised on 02 September 2016 to exhibit the articulation of Learner Profiles by four moral based stories enacted in front of the school gathering.
Ajay House organised the Science and space Quiz in the second week of September based on the modern developments, discoveries and inventions in Science and space exploration. Amul House was the winner of the evening.
This bi-monthly indoor activity is conducted in the classrooms providing exclusive time for students to read their favourite articles/novels/stories of their choice apart from the time given for reading in the PYP library.
Maths Quiz was organised on 11 June 2016 to identify and appreciate the Math Wizards of the block. Amul House participants came out as the winners of the show. Separate rounds were conducted for Early Years and Primary Group.
Save energy club of the PYP block organised a short display of solar devices that can be used for various purposes like lighting, cooking etc in order to make people aware of the vast possibilities of harnessing the solar energy as a substitute for energy source.
Mr. M P Singh, the Project Coordinator for use of Solar Energy in the campus was also present on the occasion and interacted with students clearing their queries.
Amul House organised the quiz on 28 May 2016 separately for the Early Year group and Primary Group. It was a good opportunity for students to reflect upon the proficiency of their vocabulary. Atul House participants scored the maximum.
Ajay House organised the Hindi Role Play based on moral based stories connected to cleanliness, all are equal, not to be selfish and be good to others on 21 May 2016. About 70 students got opportunity to exhibit their talents in acting. It was, indeed, a memorable event to see the small children in colourful costumes performing on the stage in front of many parents.
This was another indoor activity on 06 May 2016 where students used mainly the waste materials available in their classes and school to create some beautiful and useful products like small models, pen/pencil stands etc and displayed in their classrooms.
Earth day activities were organised by the ‘Go Green Club” of the PYP block on 22 April 2016. Early Years group had leaf painting as their activity. Grade 2 and 3 were engaged in poster making and slogan writing to highlight the importance of saving the earth and Grade IV and V was out on a plantation drive in the campus and neighbouring areas.
In accordance to the tradition of Akal Academy, Baru sahib, the first stage activity is presented by the “ New-comers/ Freshers’’ of the year. The newly admitted students are given an opportunity to perform their talents in the form of speech, dance, singing or acting. This activity was organised by Abhay House on 16 April 2016. All the new students participated in the activity.
Students were given an opportunity to display their handwriting, when returned from the winter break. It helped teachers to understand where each child stands after the long 2-month holidays and take remedial measures for improvement.
An IB authorized In-School workshop was conducted at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib on 25-26 July 2016.
Mrs. Seetha Murty (Principal/Director, Silver Oaks School, Hyderabad was the IB designated workshop leader.
Twenty one members from the PYP facilitators including some specialist area teachers participated in the two-day workshop.
The workshop on " Collaborative Planning" was encouraging,enriching and a refreshing experience for the participants.
Outdoor Study Program.
Grade II-V was out in the nature for their Outdoor Study Program. Grade V visited the Eternal University agricultural department and had an interactive session. where they learnt about organic farming, tissue culture, hydro culturing, integrated disease management etc as part of their ongoing UOI. Other classes also visited near-by paces to watch land forms, to meet members of the local community etc. Students also filled up their observation/reflection sheets.

Students of PYP block enjoyed the activity day with lot of various activities and fun.In the morning session, students created story board as indoor activity and in the evening session there was Kho-Kho matches held for various classes.Students of Kindergarten had some fun games.
"Talent Hunt" was organised for the new students of Akal Academy PYP Block on 16 April 2016. It was an excellent opportunity provided to the new entrants of Akal Academy to exhibit their talents in front of the rest of school. All of them participated enthusiastically and it was an amazing performance. Prizes were distributed to all the participants by the Chief Guest.
Fun Games and Handwriting Competition
Fun games were held for the tiny tots of the PYP block on 09 April 2016 as part of the Saturday evening activity. Simultaneously a Handwriting competition was held for the students of Grade 2 to 5 in the same evening. Winners will be awarded in the Assembly.
Inauguration of the academic block
The Academic block of the IB World School (New campus) was inaugurated on 25 October 2015 by Mr. Joseph M. Pomper, the minister-counsellor for consular affairs in the US Embassy, New Delhi. The Director, Dr. Davinder Singh; the Head of School, Dr. Neelam Kaur and other dignitaries attended the function along with the staff and students of the PYP Block. Mr. Joseph M. Pomper interacted with the student of the IB-Primary Years Program. He appreciated the scenic beauty, the cultural diversity and above all the serenity of the place (Baru Sahib). Mr. Mani, the PYP Coordinator, highlighted the powerful impact of the inquiry-based approach replacing the traditional methodology
Teachers Day Celebrated
All the students of GoGreen club celebrated this teachers day by planting saplings in camps to keep it green and our efforts towards Gogreen Campain.
In-School Workshop at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib
An IB authorized In-School Workshop on " Making PYP Happen in classrooms" was held at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib on 17-18 August 2015. Ms. Anindya Windita Hartono - PYP Coordinator, Jaya Global School, Indonesia -was the workshop leader.20 staff members from the PYP block attended the 2-day event.
Primary Section students will be presenting an End-Semester Bonanza on the 31st of July 2015 at Bhai Gurdas Hall in the School Campus at 5:00 pm. The PYP students will be exhibiting displays, models and role plays to demonstrate their learning in the first three units of Inquiry.
IB in-School workshop
An IB authorized in-School workshop was held at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib on the 29th and 30th of June 2015. Selected PYP facilitators of the IB School took part in the 2- day workshop on “Inquiry”. Mrs. Neeti B Saini was the workshop leader. The workshop enabled the participants to develop better understanding of the inquiry process and it was great learning happening throughout the two days.
Folk Dance Presentation
PYP students exhibited their talent in Dance in the form of a Folk Dance presentation on 23 May 2015. The event was organised by “Abhay House”. Almost 60 students from the 4 “Houses” participated in the presentation. The Dances included “ Nati” from Himachal Pradesh; “Peacock Dance” of Tamil Nadu; Tibetan Dance and Arabian Dance. Certificates and Prizes were awarded to each participant.
Save Energy Club of the PYP Block held a Mini Exhibition based on the theme “ Save Energy, Save Future” on 06 June 2015 . Models of Hydro-electric power plant, Wind energy harvesting, Solar Lantern and Biogas production were displayed. ‘Sun Tracker’ and ‘Pledge Wall’ were other highlights in the Exhibition.
Outdoor Study Program – Grade V
Grade V students of Akal academy, Baru Sahib went for the field trip (Outdoor Study) program from March 20-24. Students of each section visited different villages nearby to have firsthand experience of the different agricultural practices. As the students were doing currently a unit on sustainable agriculture, it was very helpful to them. Students held interviews with local farmers to know more about the type of farming, manures and fertilizers used ; observed various seasonal crops grown; collected specimen samples of seeds and crops. The field trip helped students to know more about agricultural practices in hilly areas, irrigation practices followed and how the farmers protect crops from wild animals. Students also developed fair understanding of the livestock and high yielding variety of crops.
English Dram was presented by the PYP block students of Akal Academy, Baru Sahib on September 27, 2014.Students representing each of the Houses- Abhay, Ajay, Amul and Atul – enacted one each Drama highlighting some moral values.Students exhibited their communication and presentation skills to the wider school community and were appreciated by all.Prizes were distributed to all the participants by the Guests.
Happy Teachers' Day!
Teachers' Day was celebrated by the PYP students at Akal Academy, Baru Sahib on 05 September with rest of the school. Students of the Primary block held a special assembly to show their appreciation and respect for their teachers.
The PYP Coordinator thanked the students for their show of love and affection and highlighted the need to excel in every field so that their teachers feel proud of them.
A whole-school program was also held to celebrate the day. Various cultural activities were part of the program. A special dinner was served in honour of the staff members.
